Enlightenment by command

Lene Rachel Andersen criticized the Inner Development Goals (IDG) for misusing the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and misrepresenting her work. She argues that trying to force people into a fixed framework is problematic. The author supports her stance and emphasizes the need for a broader understanding of change that integrates both inner and outer aspects.

There were three thrusts to her criticism:

1. the appropriation of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)
2. the misrepresentation of her work, The Nordic Secret, to promote the IDGs
3. and most importantly (from my perspective) what she termed “trying to cram people into a predefined mould.”

The Inner is deeply entangled with the Outer, and any change involves managing that entanglement, not to impose a pattern but to stimulate the system to allow new patterns to emerge.
